BCB: Boise 2009

E-mail Print PDF

So I've been a little slow in getting this posted. OK, really slow. But in a way, I'm glad I waited.

Monday, I delivered our donation to the St. Luke's Health Foundation, the charitable side of St. Luke's Hospital in Boise. Our $4,450 donation to the mobile mammography coach will buy mammograms for 30 women in rural Idaho. I was humbled when I handed the check to the director of annual giving. She was thrilled and amazed that we were able to raise as much as we did for our first event.

Speaking of the event, this is how it went:

We filled the gaming area at All About Games with 32 players. I had 34 register and two drops — one to help me run the tourney, and another because he was going to have to leave early. I ended up with just two no-shows, which prevented us from having to play six rounds! As it was, we ran five rounds over the better part of 12 hours. All that time running events with Kevin at Gencon proved very helpful; the biggest event I had run prior was 18 players. 32 players was a snap!

All 10 factions were represented: Cygnar 8, Legion 4, Trollbloods 4, Circle 3, Khador 3, Retribution 3, Cryx 2, Protectorate 2, Skorne 2, Mercs 1. The championship round featured Cygnar on Cygnar, with an eCaine-led force topping a 40k convert playing Darius and 4 Centurions. Third place went to an eHaley player who survived eLylyth's feat turn early on and used Telekinesis to set up a B13 assassination.

Out of the money raised, $1,805 came from auctioning off three donated armies — the Khador army I painted sold for $600, a Cygnar force painted by my top donor went for $550 and a Circle army went for $250 (to a very dedicated Tau player!). Sam & the Devildogs sold for $75, a Calandra went for $50, Eiryss sold for $40 and Anastasia and Ashlynn sold for $20 apiece.

Our top in-game donor (James “Dicewraith” Kater) spent $590; the moment he saw the Ashlynn print Matt Wilson sent, he said it would be his. Our tourney champ (Nick “Darth Stiggity” Staggs) donated $210 and took home an autographed Deneghra print. Original donated by Chris Walton earned us an additional $400 — Yuri the Axe sold for $200 as part of the silent auction.

While most of the players were from the Boise area, we had four players come in from the Air Force base about an hour away. Two PGs from Utah made the trip and one of our former owners came in from New York.

I'm extremely proud of my crew for stepping up and making this a great event. Special thanks to Bruce DeLaney and Ken Somerville of All About Games, Matt Wilson and Chris Walton for their donations and Scott “brotherscott” Kidwell for helping me run the tourney. Expect Boise to be back bigger in 2010!

Vault Comics, Oktobfest BCB Results

E-mail Print PDF

Well Vault Comics and Games held there event back in mid September (my apologies on how long its taken to report). We had a great event, we had 6 players. I believe we had 2 Khador armies, 2 Legion, 1 Cryx and 1 Merc. Everyone had some really great games and a few grudge matches. In the first round between Khador and Mercs $80 was cashed in for special abilities. These guys really gave for charity, for the event alone raised $245 among those that played. There were blisters provided from the great guys at the Vault, everyone walked away with a little something.

I'd like to congratulate Eric Jones and his Khador for winning the event, he received a soft cover Retribution book.

I also raised an additional $55 dollars for the event with my Paint Pink cryx force. http://paintpink.wordpress.com/ there's some really great forces on that site, a thanks to bobaferret for starting it.

So our $300 went to Kommen for a Cure, and from what I've been told my workplace matches charitable donates so really we raise $600...sorta. I want to thank everyone again and the Vault Comics and Games for the prizes and hosting it.

NJ SOBs Breast Cancer Brawl Results!

E-mail Print PDF

The NJ SOBs held their Breast Cancer Brawl on Saturday the 17th of October at their local game store, The Only Game in Town located in Somerville, NJ (www.togit.com).  We had 13 players in all show up to play, including 1 coming from Pennsylvania.  We had a reasonable mix of factions there too with 4 Cryx, 2 Circle, 2 Legion, 2 Trolls, 2 Cygnar, and 1 Menoth player.  This meant we had 4 rounds to play to find a clear winner.

We got a lot of donations in as part of the cheating system and for selling "L" measuring tools.  We had a fantastic dollar amount when I totaled it all.  As if by fate, exactly at that moment, Alex Leong walked in.  He couldn't stay to play but he wanted to donate, so he asked me what the total amount the group had contributed so far.  I told him the number and then he hands me a check matching the ENTIRE AMOUNT.  I was so stunned, all I could do was shake his hand in gratitude.  In all we were able to raise $1,036 for the Susan B. Komen charity, North Jersey chapter.

My thanks to TOGIT too for being so supportive to us during the event.  We are very lucky to have them as our store.  They came through with a free coin prize pack, $50 in store credit, and 4 little games to give away.  Congrats go to Matt Lejeune for painting up TEN figures in pink as part of the raffle.  Way to go man!

The game play was a lot of fun too.  I heard that people were using their cheats to make a lot of rerolls.  The finals were both nailbiters with the outcome swinging back and forth each turn.  Congratulations to Tom Hoffmann for winning a tough game over our worthy friend from PA, Jake Hoffman.  In the tight game for third place, congratulations go to Eric Jacks (Collosus) for pulling out the win from Adam Pitzer.  Poor Adam had demonlished Eric's Legion army and was just about to kill eThagrosh's last beast, Typhon, and missed killing him by just 2 points!  Overall, everyone had fun playing their games and it was a great day indeed for charity.
